BODY:
We got a call at about 4 PM today or so that Sheila had been in a bad car accident, so we rushed drove in rush hour traffic to San Ramon to get to the hospital. I only say we drove in rush hour traffic because we felt really bad that it took us so long to get there, Sheila was alone and scared with a broken shattered wrist in the hospital for a couple of hours before we could even get there. This area is so crazy for traffic. I'm not kidding you... seriously, it took us five hours to go 30 miles roundtrip... of course we stopped at a hospital for about 45 minutes in the middle, but still, it was really bad. Ugh.
So Here's What Happened
From what we understand, a big red truck came out of nowhere to make a left turn on Crow Canyon Road in San Ramon as Sheila was driving through a very green light in the intersection. Sheila didn't even have time to honk when it happened, and basically the truck broadsided Sheila.
The horrible part was that Sheila's arm / wrist was broken and she couldn't roll down the window... and I guess when the airbag went off, the airbag burst and there was all this noxious white powder that came flying out of the bag, so here she is gasping for air in the car, all the windows are rolled up, and she can't open her door because its wrecked and won't open. The passenger-side door could have been opened, but that was the side where her arm was broken, so she couldn't get to it and just had to breathe in all this nasty airbag filled air until someone opened the door.
She was taken to the hospital immediately, and the nice policeman called Adam for her and let him know what had happened, but it was really freaky for us, because we didn't know any details --- if the broken arm was all, or if he (the police officer) was just trying to get us to come to the hospital (there have been some lawsuits around here of people suing the police department because they were informed of deaths or serious injury over the phone, and so the police are pretty much just saying "You've got to come to the hospital now" to people rather than giving them any real details) So we were pretty freaked out.
Anyway, She's OK. We're very glad. She's going to stay with us a couple of days until she's feeling better. The Docs gave her some pretty strong pain meds, so she's kindof out of it, but they didn't set her arm because she needs to see an orthopedist for that ... so she's hanging out here with her arm in a sling and no cast and in a lot of pain... she can't really keep any food down, but I'm not sure if that's because of the pain or the pain meds...
That's enough excitement for one day, I'm going to bed.
Love,
Adam and Rob
